On the go: The £1.7bn Telefónica UK Pension Plan has signed the UN’s Principles for Responsible Investment.

The pension scheme became a signatory to the principles on February 2 2021, according to the UNPRI’s website.

An environmental, social and governance policy is included in the scheme’s statement of investment principles, with the view that taking an active approach to including ESG factors in investment decisions reduces overall risks while generating sustainable returns.

The policy states that in appointing and reviewing asset managers, the scheme, with the assistance of its investment adviser, Isio, considers manager expertise, track record and stated policy on ESG.

The scheme also believes that engaging with managers is more effective in initiating change than in divesting, and so will seek to communicate key ESG actions to its managers in the first instance.

ESG beliefs are formally reviewed triennially or more frequently if required by the trustee.
