The Communication Workers’ Union has announced that it has agreed a deal with Royal Mail over pensions and pay.

Details of the plan have not been disclosed. The agreement will go forward to the Postal Executive next week, where it will be subject to a two-day executive meeting. If approved, the deal will be put to the CWU membership.

In early 2017, the postal operator consulted on closing the Royal Mail Group section of the Royal Mail Pension Plan, a defined benefit scheme, to accrual.

Later that year, mediation between Royal Mail and the CWU recommended lobbying government to facilitate the creation of a collective defined contribution scheme.
