On the go: BT will appeal last month’s High Court ruling against changing the measure by which increases for its Section C scheme are calculated, from the retail price index to the consumer price index.

BT's Section C scheme has about 83,000 members. Pension increases for the scheme are currently carried out on an RPI basis, which typically offers greater rises than CPI.

The company had argued that it could, after discussions with the scheme trustee, change the measure from RPI to CPI, on the basis that it had “become inappropriate” in relation to scheme rules.

BT confirmed its decision to appeal the ruling at an investor meeting today.
