The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking a new chair for the board of the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), with current chair Kate Jones due to step down next year.
The department has launched a search, which is open to applications until 8 December 2025.
The position requires a commitment of two days a week and pays £73,840 a year over a term of up to five years.
In the job advert, pensions minister Torsten Bell said the chair’s role was “a challenging but profoundly rewarding opportunity”.
He stated: “We are seeking a chair with a commitment to first-class public services, to building personal trust across the pensions sector, to establishing strong strategic relationships across government and industry, and a leader that is seeking to make a long-term contribution…
“The role of the chair will be to consider the role the PPF plays within the developing pensions landscape, setting out a clear strategic vision and aligned priorities.”
Kate Jones has chaired the PPF since July 2021. She has overseen the defined benefit lifeboat fund’s growth to reach more than £30bn in assets under management, while also growing its reserves significantly.
Earlier this year, the PPF confirmed that it would charge no standard levy on pension schemes for the 2025-26 financial year. This week, it launched a consultation for 2026-27, also proposing to charge a zero levy.
