Consultancy group Broadstone has appointed Paul Noone as head of operations, returning to the company after spells at the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS), Capita, and Railpen.
Noone previously spent nearly six years with Broadstone between 2013 and 2019, first as a director and head of trust-based pensions and then chief operating officer. At MaPS, he was head of onboarding for the Pensions Dashboard Programme.
Broadstone said Noone would be responsible for operational improvements and enhancing administration capabilities.
Noone said: “Demand for high-quality administration support around endgame activity is growing rapidly as many schemes look to execute successfully and affordably in a highly competitive insurance market to secure their members’ benefits for the long-term.”
Senior scheme trio join ICPM
The International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM) has named three senior UK pension scheme professionals to its Research Council.
The trio are: Mirko Cardinale, head of investment strategy and advice at the Universities Superannuation Scheme; John Greaves, director of total portfolio investments at Railpen; and Paul Todd, chief operating officer at Nest.
Mike Simutin, the ICPM’s associate director of research and Research Council co-chair, said: “We are excited to have three outstanding pension leaders from the UK join our Research Council. They have each demonstrated a commitment to incorporating the latest academic research in pursuit of advancing the pension industry.”
He added that the organisation aimed to “build a robust council that bridges the latest innovative thinking with day-to-day practice”. The ICPM is a global research network of asset owners focusing on long-term investing and governance of pension investment.
Aptia hires from BW for comms role
Administration provider Aptia has hired Steph Gold as its new UK pensions communications lead. She joins from Barnett Waddingham where she worked for nearly 20 years, including as head of DrumRoll, the consultancy’s specialist communications arm.
In her new role, Aptia said Gold would develop the company’s pensions communications proposition, including building a specialist communications team.
Aptia’s UK president Malcolm Reynolds said: “As we continue to strengthen the support we offer to clients, [Gold’s] leadership will be instrumental in shaping a communications capability that delivers clear, meaningful and effective experiences for scheme members.”
Ex-TPR exec joins Franklin Templeton
Julian Lyne, who recently left the Pensions Regulator’s (TPR) executive team, has joined asset management giant Franklin Templeton as head of UK institutional.
In his new role, Lyne will oversee Franklin Templeton’s institutional strategy, including relationships with defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes and local authority funds, alongside other channels such as consultants and insurers.
At TPR, Lyne was the regulator’s interim executive director of market oversight. He stepped down from this role last month and has been succeeded by Ben Gunnee while TPR seeks a permanent replacement. He has previously worked at Newton Investments, F&C Investments, and HSBC Investments.
Nordic group seeks to break into UK market
eQ, an asset management company based in Finland, is aiming to expand into the UK institutional market and has hired Pertti Vanhanen as director of international business, a newly created role.
In his new role, he will sit on the executive management team and split his time between London and Helsinki, Finland.
Vanhanen was most recently CEO of the European and Singaporean operations of the Australian REIT, Cromwell Property Group. Before this he held several senior positions at Aberdeen.
