On the go: Matt Rodda, Labour MP for Reading East, has been appointed shadow pensions minister as part of a frontbench reshuffle.

Mr Rodda is replacing Jack Dromey in the pensions role, which the latter held for three years.

Most recently, Mr Rodda served as shadow minister for buses under current Labour leader Keir Starmer. Prior to this, he was shadow minister for local transport under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

He worked in the university sector before being elected to parliament in 2017; previously, he was a civil servant in the Department for Education.

Taking to twitter, Mr Rodda said: “It is a privilege to have been given the role of shadow pensions minister. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in this important area of policy.”

Mr Dromey has now joined the Cabinet Office team, which is led by Rachel Reeves. He has been the shadow minister for work and pensions since January 2018, and upon taking up the seat pledged to champion workers “robbed of their pensions by greedy bosses”.

Also part of the reshuffle, Fleur Anderson, who became MP for Putney in 2019, has landed a role as a Cabinet Office shadow minister and Sam Tarry, MP for Ilford South, who was elected to parliament for the first time in 2019, has become a shadow minister on Labour’s transport team.
