On the go: Eighty-eight investors have come together to target hundreds of companies across 46 countries for not reporting their climate change, deforestation and water security data.
The group of investors, with nearly $10tn(£8tn) of assets, include the Environment Agency Pension Fund, HSBC Global Asset Management and the Washington State Investment Board. They are urging the companies to disclose the information through CDP, the non-profit global environmental disclosure platform.
Amazon, BP, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Volvo, Alibaba, Qantas Airways and Genting Plantations Bhd are among the 707 companies being targeted for their impact on the environment and their lack of transparency on these issues to date.
CDP’s 2019 Non-Disclosure Campaign aims to use shareholder influence to drive further corporate transparency around deforestation, water security and climate change.
The campaign has been running for four years, and companies targeted in 2018’s campaign were more than twice as likely to disclose than those that were not.
Last year, the CDP updated its disclosure platform to align with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures.
