Gareth Mee is to take over as chief executive officer of Legal & General’s (L&G) institutional retirement business, including its bulk annuity offering.
He will take over from Andrew Kail on 1 December, with Kail moving to group chief financial officer, subject to regulatory approval.
The institutional retirement business oversees approximately £96bn in annuity assets globally, and aims to write between £50bn and £65bn in new bulk annuity business by 2028.
Mee joined L&G in 2022 from EY, where he worked for nearly 20 years in a variety of senior roles. He was initially chief financial officer at L&G Capital, helping lead its integration into L&G’s asset management unit, before moving to institutional retirement as chief investment officer.
Mee was until recently chair of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ Finance and Investment Board.
António Simões, group chief executive officer at L&G, said: “Gareth is a highly respected and trusted leader, with a track record of delivering innovative investment strategies and partnerships for our clients across Institutional Retirement and Asset Management, and our wider annuities portfolio. I’m confident that, under Gareth’s leadership, we will continue to strengthen our position as the leading player in pension risk transfer.”
