The Pensions Advisory Service has launched an information and guidance 'Spotlight' document focusing on the self-employed. It is also aiming to raise pension awareness among the self-employed with a social media campaign.

The organisation said that while auto-enrolment has been successful in increasing the number of workplace pensions among employees, less than a third of self-employed pay into a pension.

The new guidance is called ‘Pension saving for the self-employed and small business owners’ and includes the benefits of saving into a pension, how to choose a pension, how to maximise pension savings, and options upon reaching retirement.

The social media campaign includes graphics and video content with tips for the self-employed.
