Stewart leaves Hymans Robertson to join Standard Life

Callum Stewart has joined Standard Life, part of Phoenix Group, as head of investment proposition distribution. 

Stewart will be responsible for taking Standard Life’s investment proposition to the workplace pensions market. He is the former head of DC investment at Hymans Robertson, where he was well known for championing climate and sustainability issues.

Stewart commented: “The changing environment presents a new set of challenges for providers to overcome and I’m looking forward to applying my knowledge and experience to contribute to the next stage of Standard Life’s development, bringing fresh ideas and practical experience on sustainable and illiquid investing to improve outcomes for a diverse range of customers. 

“Having worked in the employee benefit consultancy space and contributed to the industry shift to embracing the cost to value shift, I’m now looking forward to continuing this work in my new role.”

Sackers announces promotions

Sackers has promoted 11 lawyers. Oliver Topping and Kirsty Pake have been promoted to partner; Emily Rowley to associate director; and Charlotte Bailey, George Carr, Sarah Clay, Amy Difford, Andrew Harper, Bethan Rowlands, Sam Taylor and Katie Whitford to senior associate.

 As well as his client work, new partner Oliver Topping focuses on the legal aspects of technology, cyber and data protection for pension schemes. He is also working on preparations for pensions dashboards. 

Meanwhile, Kirsty Pake’s recent work includes advising on member options and recent governance changes, in addition to GMP equalisation and buy-in projects. 

Alongside her general practice, Emily Rowley specialises in pensions tax and public sector issues. She has recently worked on multiple buy-out and wind-up projects, including how to address surplus assets.

Barnett Waddingham hires senior consulting actuary in Glasgow

Barnett Waddingham has hired Chris Morton as associate, and senior consulting actuary, in its Glasgow office.

Morton advises local government funds, police and fire authorities, and other not-for-profit organisations. He has previously advised occupational pension scheme trustees and corporate employers.

Morton commented: “The Barnett Waddingham public sector team’s strength-in-depth already delivers value for money for LGPS funds and members, and I aim to build on these strengths by supporting our clients with data-driven innovations, combining my previous experience of public sector consulting with my wider experience of assisting employers with strategic pension and benefit decisions.”

Barnett Waddingham also announced that Roisin McGuire has been promoted to principal, and Matthew Paton and Liam Drysdale have both been promoted to associate. All specialise in public sector work.

Redington promotes five to managing director

Investment consultant Redington has promoted Jill Davys, Katherine FitzGerald, Tara Gillespie, Anastasia Guha and Paul Lee to the role of managing director.

The new managing directors sit within Redington’s LGPS, people, global assets and sustainable investment teams respectively.

Jill Davys joined Redington in 2021 and is head of LGPS.

Katherine FitzGerald is Redington’s chief people officer, having joined the business in 2020.

Tara Gillespie is the firm’s head of global assets and responsible for growing Redington’s advisory business across non-pension asset owners and intermediaries, in the UK and around the world.

Anastasia Guha is global head of sustainable investment, having joined Redington in 2021. She leads the firm’s global sustainability strategy.
